Conservation Commission

The stairs on the bluff leading to the beach at the gut at the Conservation Commission's North Neck property have been closed due to structural instability from erosion of the bluff this past fall and winter. The Town and the Land Bank, who maintains the property for the town, are working to repair/replace the stairs as soon as conditions allow.

The Edgartown Conservation Commission administers and enforces the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, M.G.L. C. 131 s. 40, and the Edgartown Wetlands Bylaw; acquires and manages property for the purpose of conserving and/or preserving rare or unique aspects of the environment.

The Town of Edgartown maintains four cemeteries, each with its own individual style, charm, beauty and historical significance.

Old Town Cemetery, also known as Tower Hill or Green Hollow, is located on Tower Hill Road, off Katama Road, and sits nestled amongst the pines at the edge of the inner harbor. Graves marking pre-Revolutionary and Revolutionary War heroes are found at this quiet resting place.

These include: Motor Vehicle Excise Tax, Boat Excise Tax, Real Estate Tax and Personal Property Tax. The Tax Collector's office issues and maintains a record of Municipal Lien Certificates to be filed at the Registry of Deeds in Edgartown.

Parks department update as of 06/05/2020 regarding Robinson Road Recreation Area, Bend in the Road Beach, and South Beach:

Robinson Road Recreation Area:
The Robinson Road Recreation Area will be staffed from July 1st- August 31st from 9 am – 5 pm daily. At this time, the tennis courts and the baseball field will be open and available for use first come, first serve. There are no fees to used either facility.

Anyone who enterers the park is asked to wear a mask per the Covid-19 Order 31: Order Requiring Face Coverings in Public Places Where Social Distancing is Not Possible.   We are also asking anyone entering the park to be respectful of the signs and staff. 

South Beach & The Bend in the Road Beach:
South Beach and the Bend in the Road Beach are open to the public with no parking restrictions at this time however restrictions may change from day to day.

All paths to the beaches will be either six feet wide to accommodate two-way traffic or will be designated one way in and one way out. All portable toilet facilities will be equipped with hand washing stations and the portable toilet platforms will be modified to be one way in and one way out.

Lifeguards & Park Patrol will be on stands and the ground as of June 26th. All stands will have a perimeter set up around them to insure social distancing. All staff will be provided hand sanitizer and masks. 

The Covid-19 Oder 31: Order Requiring Face Masks in Public Places Where Social Distancing in Not Possible  applies to South Beach and the Bend in the Road Beach.


Please note: Alcohol is not allowed on the South Beach, Trustees locations, and Norton Point  This will be enforced this summer.
